Former Clinton Ally Torches Democrats’ New Far-Left War Plan

The Democratic Party’s civil war is heating up—and this time, even Clinton loyalists are sounding the alarm.

Former Clinton pollster Doug Schoen blasted DNC Vice Chair David Hogg’s $20 million plan to primary Democrat incumbents, calling the effort one of the “worst ideas” he’s ever heard. The harsh rebuke came during a live appearance on Fox News with Harris Faulkner, where Schoen warned that targeting party elders like Rep. Nancy Pelosi will only fracture an already broken Democratic coalition.

“I think that’s about the worst idea… that I have heard lately,” Schoen told Faulkner. “We Democrats need to offer different policies from the Republicans… not fight among ourselves in a way that will be self-defeating and self-destructive. It makes no sense, what David Hogg is doing.”

Hogg, a far-left activist elevated to the DNC’s vice chair post earlier this year, announced plans last week to raise and spend $20 million to unseat Democrats he deems insufficiently progressive. His group, “Leaders We Deserve,” is reportedly planning to target longtime lawmakers in safe blue districts—including Pelosi.

The move has ignited outrage not just from moderates, but from Democratic power brokers who view the plan as an attack on party unity. Veteran strategist James Carville already accused Hogg of betraying his post and demanded he resign from party leadership if he insists on backing primary challenges.

Schoen echoed that concern, saying Hogg’s campaign reflects the rising dominance of fringe progressives within the party. “In the Clinton years, there was a strong number of moderate voices,” he said. “Now, very few of us left. The left is in the ascendancy in terms of loudness, not in terms of numbers.”

Schoen’s warning comes as Democrats are already in freefall with voters. A March CNN poll showed Democrat favorability plummeting to just 29%. A separate Gallup poll last week found only 25% of Americans had confidence in Democrat leadership in Congress.

The latest internal chaos doesn’t help. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was recently slammed by far-left lawmakers and media allies for cooperating with Republicans on a budget deal to avoid a government shutdown. One Democrat in the House, Rep. Glenn Ivey, even called for Schumer to be removed as party leader.

Instead of uniting ahead of 2026, Democrats are devouring their own. And while centrists plead for calm, the activist base appears emboldened. Hogg’s campaign is already soliciting donations and lining up primary challengers for seats that are supposed to be secure.

But with party approval sinking and leadership fractured, nothing looks secure anymore.

Hogg claims his movement is about ushering in a new generation. But as Schoen pointed out, it’s more about tearing down the foundations of the Democratic Party with no real plan to rebuild.

“If this is the direction the party continues to take,” Schoen said, “we’ll lose what little trust we still have with mainstream voters.”

That sentiment is now being echoed not just on Fox News, but in backrooms across the Democratic establishment. With party elders under fire, moderates exiled, and radicals in control of the message, the Democrat Party isn’t preparing to fight Republicans.

They’re preparing to fight each other. And voters are watching.
