Big Tech Calls Trump: Here’s Why
Big tech leaders are getting ready for a possible Trump comeback as Election Day gets closer. Key figures like Tim Cook from Apple, Sundar Pichai from Google, and Andy Jassy from Amazon have been calling Trump recently. They seem to think he might win again.
Trump talked about how Pichai called him after he worked a shift at a McDonald’s drive-thru for a campaign photo. At a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump said, “I actually got a call from Sundar. Sundar, who’s great, from Google, he’s a great guy, very smart.” He added that Pichai told him what he did at McDonald’s was “one of the single biggest events we’ve ever had at Google.” Google declined to comment and preferred not to say anything about the call.
Trump also mentioned that Tim Cook called him to talk about some problems with the European Union. They recently told Apple to pay nearly $15 billion in back taxes. Trump had nice things to say about Cook, saying, “If Tim Cook didn’t run Apple, if Steve Jobs did, it wouldn’t be nearly as successful as it is now.” Trump also added he wasn’t “knocking Steve Jobs.”
There are also reports that Andy Jassy from Amazon talked to Trump. Last week, leaders from Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’s aerospace company, met with Trump too.
Calls from big tech executives indicate they are watching Trump’s improving chances of winning. Some forecasters now believe the former president may have a slight advantage in the election.
If Trump gets elected again, he could have a big impact on businesses in all kinds of ways. That’s why it’s smart for these big tech leaders to reach out to him now—they want to make sure they’re on the winning side. The fact that big names like Tim Cook from Apple and Sundar Pichai from Google are calling Trump shows they really think he might make it back to the White House. Basically, they’re not taking any chances, and they want to be prepared if he actually wins.
